There are two main independent testing companies certifying the safety of commercial products, TÜV and UL. TÜV is a safety testing house based in the EEC, whereas UL is situated in the USA.

Each testing company individually evaluates products to ensure that they safely meet the manufacturers claimed specifications, and that they are able to perform to the manufacturers claimed specifications, over a number of years.

Underwriters Laboratories® (UL)

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an independent product safety certification organisation. based in the USA.

UL develops standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment, chiefly dealing with product safety.

UL’s worldwide family of companies and network of service providers includes 68 laboratory, testing and certification facilities serving customers in 102 countries.

GS TÜV® Mark – General explanation

Although GS TÜV stands for Geprüfte Sicherheit (approved safety), it is not just a German Safety standard system, manufacturers from all over the world use this company’s services.

The GS sticker indicates that the product was tested and certified for safety according to the “German Equipment Safety Law” by a trustworthy, independent institute. The GS TÜV mark is a type-approval mark, followed by periodic factory inspections covering the quality system for the product’s production. This law requires the certification body, to frequently check (usually annually or every 2 years, depending upon the certificate) whether the manufacturer is able to maintain all the specifications of the tested product in his mass production. During this factory inspection, we evaluate the implementation of the quality system as relevant for the production, the production environment, and production related testing and measurement equipment.

The TÜV mark asserts that this product has successfully passed the strictest tests for quality, safety and instruction clarity. Furthermore, to ensure the continued adherence to these standards over time, TÜV carries out periodical tests on all certified products.

INSURANCE COMPANIES APPROVE OF UL & TÜV SAFETY APPROVED PRODUCTS

As all our commercial products are all either UL or TÜV tested, your insurance company could not claim that the product was unsuitable for your TV. With inferior products, if they are not fully safety approved, insurance companies can reject any subsequent claims. Perhaps more importantly, if a product has been tested, approved and certified by UL or TUV, then you can rest assured that the specification claims are true and realistic, unlike some very low cost products coming into the UK.

All Premier Mounts products are tested and approved in the USA by UL.

All B-Tech products are tested and approved by both UL & TÜV
