As reported by the BBC on the 9th of March 2015…
Many older school buildings have years and years of dust and dangerous ASBESTOS fibres trapped above the ceiling. If left undisturbed, then this dust and ASBESTOS fibres poses little danger. However, if disturbed then it can become airborne and very dangerous.
When ceiling mounting a projector, the very act of drilling holes for the mounts and passing the cables above the suspended ceiling will disturb the dust and any ASBESTOS fibres, it’s inevitable. Any historic ASBESTOS fibres can become a health risk for the installer, teaching staff, pupils and students.
Rather than risking the disturbance of the dust and ASBESTOS fibres, then often a projector can be wall mounted. Clearly this is the safer and altogether better option.
As the BBC reports, up to 86% of older school buildings may contain asbestos dust.
